The real site
Off the south coast of Nusa Penida, reef mantas come in to a cleaning station all year round. The odds of seeing them are high, never certain. The dive runs from about 5 to 20 m, usually with little current. The surface is the hard part, with waves and surge that can make getting in and out rough. From July to September the water turns cold, so bring a thicker suit. Stay low, keep your distance and let the mantas come to you: never chase them.
