Flappy Diver

Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Introduction

Nico Scuba / Nicolas Roos ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Flappy Diver mobile application (the "App") and this website. This page explains what information we collect, why, and your choices. You can play Flappy Diver without signing in. The App creates an anonymous player ID on first launch so your progress can be saved. Your name and email are only collected if you sign in.

Playing without signing in

When you first open the App, it creates an anonymous player ID on our server (a random identifier, with no name or email attached). It is used to save your game progress, so it is not lost if you reinstall or sign in later. Stored on our server, linked to that ID:

  • Game progress: materials, gear, dive-site stars and your daily streak.
  • Notification token: only if you turn on reminders, so we can send them to your device.

Stored on your device only, never sent to us:

  • Game scores: your best local scores.
  • Settings: your music and sound effect preferences.

Accounts and global leaderboard

To appear on the global leaderboard you can choose a diver name, and you can optionally sign in with Apple or Google so your name and scores stay with you across devices. If you use these features, we collect:

  • Account identifier. A unique identifier from Apple or Google. We do not post to your account and we never receive your password.
  • Email address. Received from Apple or Google when you sign in. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead of your real one. Email we send still reaches you through it.
  • Diver name. The public display name you choose for the leaderboard. Please don't use your real name: it is shown publicly, in the App and on this website's top 100.
  • Scores. Your game scores and the deepest zone you reached, shown publicly on the leaderboard next to your diver name.
  • Country. Detected from your device's region setting and editable in your profile. We store the country only, not your precise location, GPS, or address.
  • Newsletter preference. Whether you opted in to our news and updates, and the date you opted in.

We do not collect your real name, contacts, precise location, photos, or device advertising identifiers.

Newsletter and marketing emails

We send marketing emails (news and product updates) only if you actively opt in: by ticking the newsletter box when you create your diver name or later in your profile, or by entering your email in the signup form on this website. The box is never ticked for you. This is your consent under the GDPR, and we record the date you gave it.

You can withdraw consent at any time by turning the newsletter toggle off in your profile, or using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. Withdrawing is free and does not affect your ability to play or use any feature.

This website

  • Newsletter signup. If you enter your email here, it is sent to Zoho Campaigns, the email service we use, and added to our Flappy Diver list. Nothing else is collected with it.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Until you accept in the banner, it runs without cookies. If you accept, it sets its usual cookies. You can change your mind by clearing this site's data in your browser.
  • Leaderboard. The top 100 shown here is read from the game's server and shows only diver names, scores and the deepest zone reached.

Legal basis (GDPR)

For players in the EU/EEA: we process your account identifier, diver name, scores, email, and country to provide the game and leaderboard you asked for (contract / legitimate interest). We send marketing emails only on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data: contact us or use in-app deletion.

How it's stored

Player IDs, game progress, notification tokens, diver names, scores, email, and country are stored using Supabase (our backend provider) on secure servers, and transmitted over encrypted connections.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from inside the App: Profile → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your player ID, email, diver name, country, newsletter preference, game progress and global scores from our servers. Your local high scores stay on your device (you can clear those by deleting the App). Account deletion cannot be undone. See Delete your account for the steps, or to ask us by email.

Third-party services

The App contains no advertising, does no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and we do not sell or share your data. We use your email only to send you our own newsletter, and only if you opted in. The third parties involved are:

  • Apple / Google: the sign-in provider you choose, if any.
  • Supabase: our backend host for player IDs, progress, accounts and the leaderboard.
  • Zoho Campaigns: the email service used to send the newsletter, only if you opt in.
  • Google Analytics: visit statistics for this website only, as described above.

Children's privacy

Flappy Diver is rated for everyone, and account features (which involve an email address) are meant for players 13 and over, old enough to have an Apple or Google account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.

Summary

You can play Flappy Diver without signing in: the App keeps an anonymous player ID and your game progress on our server, and nothing that names you. If you join the global leaderboard or sign in, we also collect your account identifier, email, diver name, scores, and country to run those features. We email you news only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe or delete your account at any time. The App shows no ads, does no tracking, and we never sell your data.
